Meet Barb Burnette a Hispanic Woman of Distinction who devotes countess hours to non-profits.
“If we continue to encourage the next generation to dream big dreams, to work hard and to value education, the Hispanic women of tomorrow will continue to develop into leaders we can all be proud of.”- Barbara "Barb" Burnette
As the daughter of Cuban immigrants who fled Communist oppression and were left with nothing, Barbara Burnette was taught at an early age that a person’s education was the one asset she could possess that could never be taken away from her.
Barb, as she prefers to be called, took that important lesson to heart and received her Associate’s Degree in Art from Miami-Dade College and her Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising and Marketing from Florida International University.
In business she’s worked for several Fortune 500 companies in the fields of healthcare, finance, technology, government, telecommunications, education, sports and entertainment. Today in her consulting business she uses that wide-ranging experience to help her start-up company clients by providing them with high-level consultancy with strategic corporate alliance development, handling finances, human resources, organizational skills and time management. For her non-profit clients she also helps with fundraising and board engagement.
But Barb’s work with non-profits also extends to countless volunteer hours. Her efforts with HANDY is one such cause and her work helping that group raise money, re-organize their managerial structure and being Board Chair for several years is why she was recognized as “Board Member of the Year” by NonProfit PRO. She’s also been honored as one of the “100 Outstanding Women of Broward County” by the Boys and Girls Club of Broward County and “Outstanding Mother of the Year” by Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies as well as receiving numerous other commendations.
Barb has three children, Brett, Brittany and Brock, a foster son, Breon, a HANDY alumni, and her beautiful granddaughter, Anabeth, age three. Ken (Kenny) Burnette, Barb’s husband, is the Vice President of Sales for McCormick Distilling out of Weston, Missouri.
