Successful Hialeah Born Latina Councilwoman- Community Activist
Katharine Cue-Fuente

Meet Katharine Cue-Fuente a 2016 Hispanic Woman of Distinction, Councilwoman, City of Hialeah

“Today’s Latinas have broken barriers and changed the perception of Hispanic women because of visionaries such as my mom and abuela and men like my father and husband who see us as equals, business partners, friends and support us even if it’s not traditional.”  – Katharine Cue-Fuente, Councilwoman, City of Hialeah

Katharine Cue-FuenteKatharine Cue-Fuente has been a community activist for most of her life. As far back as high school she was thoroughly involved in civic events for groups such as Habitat for Humanity, the Peace and Justice Club and Future Leaders of Tomorrow.

It came as no surprise when this Hialeah born-and-raised Cubana was appointed by her city’s leaders to their community’s Cultural Affairs Council while she was still in her teens. On that council she helped on programs such as the Art on Palm Festival, Art in Public Places and the city-wide art exhibit.

Before earning her B.A. from St. Thomas University, Katharine was an intern in the Mayor’s office as the assistant to the Educational Liaison and the Chief of Staff. Her hard work was quickly noticed and within two years she was given the position of Educational Liaison working directly with the mayor, the city’s 32 schools and area businesses developing partnerships that would benefit students and the community. She also was appointed to oversee the Mayor’s Scholarship Fund Board and the Educational Advisory Board.

In 2008, Katharine was appointed to a seat on the Hialeah City Council and she formally ran for that position in the next election and won by a landslide making her the youngest councilwoman in the city’s history. In 2015, her fellow council members elected her to the post of Council Vice President.

This past May, Katharine was hired as the new Senior Marketing Manager at Hialeah Hospital for Tenet Healthcare.

In 2015, Katharine appeared on the cover of “Imagen Magazine” as a mujeres lideres, was the recipient of the Hispanic Leadership Award for Young Professionals by the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and was selected as one of the “60 Most Influential” by Miami’s “Diario Las Americas” newspaper.

Katharine has been married to George Fuente since 2010 and they happily became the proud new parents to their adorable baby, Elizabeth, last September.
