An Inspirational Latina’s Journey From Trenton to Princeton University

Success- Trenton Central High School debate team and Princeton U
My high school years, above all, have allowed me to grow into a better person. My participation and leadership as the first female captain to ever lead a Trenton Central High School debate team shaped my understanding of the world. With the help of my role model and coach, Mr. Nicholas Cirillo, I steered my team into the second place title in the CBC high school league, losing by only one point to one of the best teams in the nation.
Through endless strategy sessions and countless hours rehearsing speeches, we became a team ready to face and win against the debaters of Rutgers University and The College of New Jersey. Being debate team captain gave me the confidence and strength to become a leader in my community and shaped the guidelines that I will follow for years to come.
I hope that through successfully obtaining a college degree, at Princeton University, I will become a criminal psychologist, and through that medium make an impact on the world as a whole. My wings will not only shelter my own, through charities they will harbor those in need who suffer with diseases, poverty, and distraught. As a first generation college student I know that none of what I have accomplished would have been possible without the constant support of my family, my teachers and school related role models, and of course my friends. Because of them, and their impact on my life, I will strive to become a role model for those who face life’s many obstacles. I faced adversity and was able to reach the light at the end of tunnel because through it all I had people around me who cared about my success; it is now my turn to be there to aid in the success of others likes myself.
I hope to be known as a girl who left an amazing legacy behind and was the true meaning of the word role model.
