Active Duty Sportswear
This look is so easy to pull together as it relies on classic shapes and colors
Hello Fashionistas,
With digital devices and technology keeping us on the go 24/7– our weekend and workday lives seem to get a bit blurry as to where one stops and the other starts. We want our precious weekend time all to ourselves, but know we’ll be running errands, doing some work, getting the kids to all of their sporting events and play dates, possibly working out, and maybe having lunch or a drink with some friends—it’s a lot we want to squeeze into 2 days if we’re that lucky! So what does a busy fashionista do when trying to manage all of these various activities and still look good throughout the entire day—we create a new way of wearing clothes called “lifestyle” dressing!
This has been one of the buzz phrases in the fashion world for the past couple of years. It’s more than just living in your track suit or yoga clothes all day. It’s a very on trend type of dressing that blends together the casual elements of our easy weekend, sporty dressing vibe into our daytime and work wardrobes. Outfits that can take you from morning to evening keeping you comfortable and looking pulled together. And as long as they have a clean and polished look—you’ll be chic too! The look keeps escalating every season making runway designers’ like Proenza Schouler, Lacoste, and Chanel’s most high end fashions feeling sporty.

This season we are calling our version of this trend, “Active Duty” as we make it work hard to keep our busy lives streamlined when it comes to fashion! We can’t always use the runway as a reality check on how we need to dress to be comfortable throughout our day, but taking key elements from these designer looks will create our modern and practical look.
Some of the details that are key this season are contrast trims and tipping, skinny ribs, sporty taping, retro tennis looks, and relaxed lounge pants that send a mixed message of “I work out/I lounge”.
Stripes, polo collars, color blocking, crop and midi tops give some sassy street cred to the look. And don’t forget these looks are meant to be multi-functional so they can be dressed down with some cute kicks to keep you looking great while you’re busy doing your day to day activities OR you can throw on some heels and bring your chic sport self out on the town!
This look is so easy to pull together as it relies on classic shapes and colors. A good jogger pant, flare knee length skirt, easy throw on cardigan, polo shirt, crew neck rib tee—these are all great basics. And for color, it’s all about white, black, grey and some fun pops of vibrant colors like cobalt, Kelly green, red, and yellow. Stripes and menswear birds-eye textures for bottoms are the key patterns for this look.
Just remember, a good jogger pant can take you from a work-out class to a cocktail at a hip trendy bar once you sport some great heels, retro duffle handbag, and some aviator sunglasses! Kind of makes you want to work out right???
