Cultural Diversity KidCinemaFest: 6 Years Strong
The film festival founder and director, Armando Guareño brings more than 50 films from 20 plus countries
Back for its sixth installment, KidCinemaFest aims to enrich children’s appreciation for filmmaking and cultural diversity. As the film festival founder and director, Armando Guareño says, This years film program strives to enrich the lives of children through the art of cinema. We are excited to have a rich program with more than 50 films from more 20 countries, enabling children and families to learn from different cultures without having to leave New York City.
Armando Guareño has worked in several film festivals along with producing movies as well. His passion for KidCinemaFest came about because he saw the lack of knowledge regarding filmmaking amongst the youth. He felt he needed to do something that will inspire and encourage the youth to want to be involved in the arts.
The festival provides an excellent program line-up, which it is not only entertaining, but also informative. There are more than 50 films produced in Europe, Latin America, North America, Asia and Africa that will be displayed throughout the 10 days event. As for any festival, KidCinemaFest started small and drastically progress into what it has become today. It has also expanded into new areas, which its first life begins in Washington Heights. The festival is now showing in public schools throughout Inwood, Marble Hill, and the Bronx. It will be the first year in these areas and the excitement to show these films in these areas are beyond words to describe.
This year, KidCinemaFest is delighted to open the festival on October 22nd at 7:00pm at the United Palace with the Academy Award nominee for Best Animated Feature Film Ernest and Celestine (for all ages) directed by Benjamin Renner, Vincent Patar, and Stéphane Aubier. This years edition will present audiences with features films, documentaries and short films suitable for all children, adolescents, young adults and their families. The festival hopes to provide a platform that will enhance the appreciation for the arts with the youth and their new knowledge will encourage them to be productive and creative in the art field.
KidCinemaFest will take place from October 22nd to the 31st, 2014 at Alianza Dominicana Cultural Center (530 West 166th Street and Amsterdam), The United Palace (4140 Broadway at 175th Street), Casita Maria in the South Bronx (928 Simpson St at 163rd Street).
