The Excitement of the Fashion Designers of Latin America Showcase During NYFW—Press Conference and Day 1 Shows

I absolutely love September not only because of the change in the weather, but because it’s the month of the Mercedes Benz, New York Fashion Week where we get to see every designers’ amazing creations for Spring/Summer 2018.

It’s when we have to start packing up our summer clothes and pulling out those fall boots, scarves and cold weather clothes but at the same time start dreaming about what we will be wearing when March 2018 rolls around!

This last week was incredibly exciting as the Latin Fashion Designers of America show was officially recognized as an included event to NYFW. That is a huge achievement for Latinos and I was fortunate to hear Albania Rosario, the founder and creative director for FDLA speak about it during the Tuesday evening press conference where she also introduced the 15 hand selected designers for the event.

Spain’s Agatha Ruiz de la Prada and her whimsical Spring/Summer 2018 collection

Rosario noted that she is extremely proud of the recognition by NYFW, but there is still so much more to do. She has put so much of her time, energy and love into her creation but sees it growing to raise even more awareness for these designers who range from well seasoned and established personas like Agatha Ruiz de la Prada from Spain to less recognized design talent creating one of a kind pieces that will never go into any production runs.

She also sees the growth for FDLA to more international exposure. It’s truly amazing to see Rosario’s FDLA show supporting all of this amazing talent and providing them with a high level platform that gives them equivalent access to hair and make-up teams, models, stunning venues, and a top notch invite list to social influencers, media, bloggers, and manufacturers that can help build these designers’ brands.

When names like People en Espanol’s editor in chief, Armando Correa and  iconic designer, Carolina Herrera are in attendance it’s a mega event.

A great press conference with Rosario’s hand chosen designers who will be presenting their collections for 3 consecutive days during NYFW including Carlton Jones, Alexander Acosta, Chakabanas Republic, Isabel Lopez, Morena Valley, Rosita Hurtado, and Agatha Ruiz de la Prada.

Day one’s shows kicked off with the much anticipated collection from Spain’s beloved, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada.

Her look is always about having fun. The bright rainbow colors and easy playful shapes make everyone want to wear her pieces. Bringing her honorary guest, the legendary Carolina Herrera, made the show even that much more special as she definitely is an icon to not only Latino, but all designers.

Agatha Ruiz de la Prada’s signature look is one of happiness and fun. Easy wearable shapes and fun rainbow bright colors  with hearts, stars and flowers definitely signal the return of spring.
