Is Social Media Good For Business?

A vacation (a highly emotional/sensorial decision) is a high risk on both the cost of the vacation as well as the lost opportunity. Go on the “wrong” vacation and not only did you spend the money but you also won’t be able to have another vacation for a year.

On the other hand, buy a soft drink that you don’t like, and no problem; throw it away and you can buy another one. You don’t like the smell of that detergent? No problem; buy another one. You’re out $10 to $15 max.

So, in thinking specifically about social media: Where does your product fit and how do customers or consumers make their buying decision?

Social media is not very transactional; people go on Facebook to spend time with friends, go on LinkedIn to work on their professional networks and go on Twitter to pontificate and show off. But they don’t come to these social media channels to necessarily read and respond to ads.

Remember that when evaluating whether social media is right for your marketing and advertising needs.
