Life, Art and Business

Life in Art, Art in Life

For inspiration, Baurin turns to nature and travel. From a cultural perspective, Paris is at the top of my list. Its hard not to be inspired there–art is everywhere, she says. From a painting perspective, Ive been greatly inspired by Argentina. In many pieces I have unconsciously incorporated imagery and themes that have a vivid cultural connection to memories, ranging from the port of Buenos Aires to the vastness of Patagonia and the flatlands of the Pampas. Baurin never even inwardly snickers at viewers who dont get it, because she doesnt feel theres any hard-and-fast it to get. She describes her creative process as controlled chaos and likens its effect to the psychologists Rorschach test. I believe creativity emanates from the soul, she says. She describes her work as minimal representational, saying her paintings come to light in an intuitive manner: Like the child who see pictures in clouds. I step away from the literal and attempt to paint what I perceive and feel.
Growing into the Future
To anyone trying to juggle life, business, and art, Baurin advises: Commit yourself to your art with all your heart. When you stay true to yourself and create what comes from within, your work will speak for itself. But like Baurin, an artist needs a way to subsidize creativity. Only then will the art survive. Based in San Diego, Baurin has exhibited widely in Southern California, and her work can be found in private collections internationally from Argentina to France.
