Small Business And Personal Computers Still Going Strong

Why Have PCs Survived So Long?

PCs have survived so long because they are so flexible. For example, Lenovo just released the Helix, a Windows 8 tablet that snaps vertically into a base that provides a traditional laptop keyboard and pointing device. The tablet portion detaches and is fully touch-screen enabled. As smartphones and tablets take on computer capabilities, computers are taking on smartphone and tablet mobile capabilities.

Wearable computers may be the next iteration in this progression. Smartphones may be integrated into jewelry (Apple’s rumored iWatch) and glasses (Google Glass). The number of devices we use in our personal computing experience will continue to expand. They will join our personal ecosystem of systems we use daily to access our information over the cloud. I still think a powerful computer will coordinate that ecosystem, even if it will be smaller and more powerful than the personal computer we’ve become accustomed to using for the past 20 years!
