3 Tips to Boost Your Business on Social Media
Social Media can be challenging, but it can also grow your business. Here’s how to make it easy:
If you’ve ever had to manage a social media account professionally, you know it can be a lot of work. Inspiration comes and goes, but deadlines stay the same. How can you keep consistent posts that are actually entertaining and informative? I’ve got some tips. During my time as Social Media Manager for an Appalachian outdoor outfitter, I had some of the most fun in any workplace coming up with new ideas and posts. It can be stressful, but with the right team and the right strategy, it can also be a blast.
I’ll be sharing three tips on how to make the most of your resources as a social media manager. Each tip is a practical idea that you can use to get a LOT of mileage when making consistent posts and stories. There’s a theme here, and that’s to use your team! They’re there for a reason, and they’re the best part of your company. If you’re a small business and that team is composed entirely of you, that’s A-OK. You can use yourself for any of these posts.
Like music? Who doesn’t! Try Spotify Saturday.
One of my favorite ideas is something called Spotify Saturday. It’s exactly what it sounds like: Just post some of your staff’s favorite songs every weekend. I rotated through the team, asking 3 staff members each week for a good photo of themselves and their current “favorite song.” Then, I posted a story of each person with their anthem of the week. It was a basic idea that I could replicate fast and without a lot of creative effort. And it worked. Engagement went up, and people started tuning in just to see our song list each week. It was also a great way to keep staff connected during the pandemic, and feeling represented on the team.
Disclaimer: Our staff had incredible taste in music, and so I am biased. Results may vary.
Meet the Staff Monday is the best way to start the week.
Another great way to get consistent posts out there is something called “Meet the Staff Monday.” Boom. Easy. Every monday, post a new staff member, featuring some of their favorite pictures and fun facts. I try to throw in a few wild questions, like “Favorite fictional universe” or “strangest encounter with nature.” Or just ask them their ideal breakfast foods. Have fun with it, and they will too. This is such a time-tested method to boost morale, make community, and get consistent posts out there when you’re wracking your brain for ideas.
If your staff is smaller, you can repeat the same staff members and ask new or themed questions each time. And if it’s just you, that’s fine too.
Giveaways are great!
Finally, giveaways are always a good option. If you have great merchandise, you’ve already got your prize. The secret to a good giveaway is that it spreads. This is done through story reposts and shares, where entrants have to share the post to their friends. This creates a ripple effect, and can lead to a lot of new visitors. A good strategy is to require entrants to:
- Like the post
- Share it to their story
Alternatively, the requirement can be that they comment a friend’s name to enter. Once the raffle has been finished, go online and look for instagram and facebook raffle tools to help you pick a winner.
And there you have it! With these three practical tips, you’re well on your way to growing your business online. Social Media may be the bane of our society, but it does wonders for getting your brand out there. It really can be a great resource for connecting to new clients, as well as strengthening the bonds within your team. Make sure you keep your branding consistent, but have fun with it! Users can tell when you’re genuinely enjoying the process. Having fun is a win-win.
