The T Shirt Up Designing Project

The MUST have “I love NY” t-shirt, but jazzed up by Grace

The MUST have “I love NY” t-shirt, but jazzed up by Grace to be fashionably chic!

After we had recharged our stomachs and brains with pizza, soda, (and maybe just a few little cupcakes), we started in on the t-shirt up-cycle project. I love how this came out. I think I’m going to have to make one for me too!

We finally wrapped up our workday in the office, but we still had a bit more to do. I had asked Grace if she could help me out with a fashion shoot in Bryant Park so we took a few of our newest girls t-shirts from our brand “Sugar Rush” and had Grace do a bit of modeling for us.

After this long day of work, I think Grace got a pretty realistic taste of what happens in my line of work.

It’s busy, hectic, and a little nuts, but I love it and I think she really enjoyed this experience. Her day at my office was done, but I still had a few plans to really show her what happens after we draw up our sketches.

My intern, Danielle was in our office the following day and I handed her the fabrics that Grace had chosen for the 2 designs that we had picked as our favorites. Danielle is a self-trained sewer and she was going to help make Grace’s designs a reality. Danielle went and bought the fabrics, ribbons, and pins that we would need to make these tops. Danielle worked all day

Friday to get them completed and Saturday morning Grace woke up to her designs “in person”. I can’t stop smiling at her face just seeing her ideas come to life. I still get that same feeling when I see a finished sample that I designed or helped design. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a 2-D fashion idea on paper come back as something tactile, fully functional and ready to wear!
