A Latina Doctor’s Mission to Heal the Spirit, Mind, Body, and Womb
Latina Dominican American doctor’s mission is rooted in nature, rising in power
May was Mental Health Awareness Month—but for me for me, it was personal. As a Board-Certified Naturopathic Doctor and Latina Woman, I’ve seen firsthand how fertility struggles, hormonal imbalances, sexual health and reproductive system challenges often mask a deeper pain: emotional trauma, stress, and disconnection from the self. For three decades, my work has focused on helping women, and men, not only conceive naturally—but also reclaim their peace of mind, self-worth, and inner power.
My back story and journey:
I am Dr. Julissa, proud daughter of Dominican immigrants (my mother’s descendants were from Cremona, Lombardy, Italy, yet both my mother and father were born in Dominican Republic), born and raised in the vibrant heart of New York City. In my culture, healing has always been passed down through generations—through love, prayer, and herbs. I took those early lessons and blended them with science, becoming a pioneer in the Naturopathic approach to disease prevention, health, healing, and sexual health. My books, The Naturopathic Approach to Fertility, and my supplement line, Epic Health Journey® – Epic Woman Health Program and Epic Man Health Program, were born out of this vision: a future where women and men don’t have to choose between mental peace and physical healing—they receive both. To this day, with a 99.9% success rate, every couple, that has come to our office with the light of hope of desiring to conceive a baby of their own creation, that has followed through with our recommendations, lifestyle changes, and herbal therapy programs, has conceived a happy and healthy Baby of their own creation! And yet, we do not take credit for these blessings, for they were only made possible as The Creator used me as channel for His blessed Light.
The journey to entrepreneurship I feel began when I realized at a young age that I desired to help the people of the world find an alternative to their healing, without the side effects I noticed so many loved ones close to me suffering with during my childhood. In my practice I’ve seen much too many patients suffer silently, misdiagnosed or dismissed, sent down, for example, the IVF route without ever being told they had other options. That’s when I knew: I had to build my own path. One that honored the whole woman, the whole man — soul, mind, body, and spirit.
Through my private practice, online consultations, my books and public speaking, I’ve supported thousands of women navigating infertility, endometriosis, PCOS, menopausal distress, cancer, etc. Yet, beyond the physical symptoms, I help them process shame, rebuild confidence, and release emotional trauma, by helping their souls heal first—because healing the womb often starts with healing the soul, spirit and mind. Mental health is the thread that runs through every part of my work. Anxiety, depression, and emotional suppression are deeply tied to reproductive disorders—and I believe natural medicine, when delivered with compassion and understanding, is a radical act of liberation.
As a Latina entrepreneur
As a Latina entrepreneur, I’ve faced my share of resistance. I’ve been told my work was “too alternative.” The proof of the magnificence of this work however is in the numerous patients over 30 years of practice, their success stories, and for those whom suffered fertility challenges, the proof is also in the precious blessing Baby they finally held in their arms. I stand firm in who I am—a Latina Doctor, blending ancestral wisdom with scientific, clinical expertise. And now, I train other holistic practitioners, mentor young students, and teach that there is power in all our roots.
Community is at the center of everything I do. Whether I’m hosting a natural medicine health workshop or guiding a couple through their fertility journey, I create safe, nurturing spaces where people can be seen, heard, and healed. This is how we break generational cycles. This is how we restore joy.
I want to be remembered not only as a doctor—but as a bridge. A woman who made it safe to talk about sexual health, healing, fertility, and mental wellness without shame. A Latina Woman whom has proved that love for others, remembering we are All sparks from one source, The Creator, our cultures, our healing traditions, and our voices belong in the future of medicine.
To the next generation of Latina entrepreneurs, and All Women, in health and business: build something that feeds your soul and all people. Your legacy is not in how many titles you earn—it’s in how many souls you help heal.
