Celebrating its 35th year, “Bending Towards the Light..A Jazz Nativity”

by Tina Trevino

Yes, there will be a Jazz Nativity in 2020! This year it’s streaming on-line from now until January 3rd, 2021!

Looking for something fun and celebratory to do with your friends and family for the holiday season, well here it is!

Celebrating its 35th year, “Bending Towards the Light..A Jazz Nativity” is the traditional Christmas story told through the medium of jazz. Through its history of performances, a who’s who of legendary jazz artists including Tito Puente, Clark Terry, Lionel Hampton and so many more have been a part of it, playing the roles of the kings, shepherds and angels. Charles Kuralt first hosted it when it was initially introduced in 1985. It is a spiritually, uplifting and joyous event to share with family for the holidays.

Composed, produced and directed by Jazz singer, composer Anne Phillips in collaboration with the legendary Dave Brubeck, the Jazz Nativity is performed in full costume and is a wonderful combination of theater, jazz and opera.
