Title: Executive Director
Company: Broward County Bar Association
Business location: Broward County, Florida
Residence: Davie, Florida
Where did you grow up?

I was born and raised in Los Angeles California. Both my parents hail from Puerto Rico.

What’s a typical day or week in your everyday personal life?

Relative to my personal life, most of my free time is spent with my family. I am married and have two teenagers. I enjoy working out; I am a life-long exercise enthusiast. I love reading a good book. I am a sci-fi and fantasy literature and movie nerd.

What you do, for a living?

I am passionate about making a difference, serving our society, community. Through my role, I firmly believe that I make a contribution towards improving our society by working with our members, judges and other stakeholders to improve, enhance the delivery of justice in Broward County, making it a better community for our residents and visitors.

How did you end up in your line of work? Was it accidental or were you strategic about it?

Braulio N. Rosa- Navy It was unexpected. Not strategic. Yet, 9 years ago, I discovered my passion and calling. I had always been in leadership, but I found that I could make a difference through the Bar Association. It sits at the center of our community and touches so many aspects of our lives. It’s an honor and privilege to work with the wonderful and committed leaders: lawyers, judges, elected officials, and business leaders.

Tell us about the factors that shaped your career and business aspirations.

I have always been passionate about service and making a difference in the lives of people.

What’s a typical day or week in your everyday professional life?

The typical day starts at about 7 a.m.  I start by quickly checking emails, texts and will respond to important issues immediately. From there, I begin to check social media and to develop the posts for the various social media platforms to promote and educate folks on the Broward County Bar Association brand. All of this is done while I am drinking a cup a coffee.

From there, I generally have scheduled conference calls, Zoom meetings, etc, with my staff, Board Members, members, judges, sponsors, other local leaders, or various stakeholders to work on programming, projects, or initiatives that benefit our members, the courthouse, clerk of court operations, to enhance the delivery of justice, or for the betterment of Broward County and society in general.

How you balance the work-life challenges…what have been the rewards?

This has been incredibly challenging, especially in the era of Covid-19. Working out almost daily helps me manage stress, clear my mind. I have a small gym in my garage, including a treadmill and weights. I enjoy dinner with my family and the conversations we have. It is a very positive way to disconnect from work. Before Covid, I recently began to do some travelling. In December, we journeyed to Colorado to ski. It was a spectacular way to recharge the batteries!

What advice would you have for others in the business sector trying to make it day after day?

Figure out what your passion is, your lane, and work tirelessly at it. When you love what you do, it’s not work. Also, don’t let others drag you down. You will encounter those people along the way. Know your value and focus on your goal.

Did your background/ethnicity create any obstacles for you?  Any advantages?  How so?

No, I have not found, or allowed my background to be an obstacle. Other than folks not pronouncing my name correctly when they have never heard it before. I mean, with a name like Braulio, LOL!!  Actually, I have found that Latino values are American values. For instance, “work ethic” is extremely important in America, and it, too, is part of the Latin fabric. “Hard work” is something that I learned at home from my parents.

What inspires you in your work life?  What turns you off?

My children and future generations. I am a firm believer that we are the stewards of this planet while we take our short ride on this revolving planet. It is imperative that each of us work to leave this world a better place than how we received it from our parents. Our actions have ripples, like a rock being cast on a pond, that affects generations to come.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Listen more, talk less.

Do you think you have ever truly “made it” in life?

No. Life is an ever-growing, evolving process. I am always working towards a better me.

If you could have dinner with any person—living or dead–who would it be? Why?

There are a few I would like to have dinner with, but if it has to be one–Walt Disney. I am all about innovation and creativity. Walt Disney created, through his vision, an entertainment empire, that started off with a mouse in a cartoon, and evolved into entire themed amusement parks to modern day streaming services and beyond. The man had great vision, so great, that even with him gone, the leaders of his company can fundamentally continue to build with the same idea—create something that families can enjoy together. Innovation is what has made America great. Innovation has led to the quality of life improvements that you see in Carousel of Progress (an old school ride, but one of my favorites) and beyond. It has expanded our lives via advancements in science, technology, and medicine. Innovation, creativity are the human traits that allows us to solve problems and to continue to build a more perfect society.
