Tony’s Takeaways

Q. What can the business world learn from the game of golf?

TM: “Golf is a game of honor, respect, etiquette, and getting along. Each is important in its own right. Sometimes the value of the last one is overlooked. Again, however, it’s of equal importance.”

Q. What advice would you give entrepreneurs and professionals looking to gain an advantage in today’s competitive economy?

“Expand your skill base. If I have one regret, it’s that I initially dreamed small. I originally set my sights on being a good player only. Once I decided to become a professional at a municipal course, though, I came to realize I’d also have to become familiar with human resources and public relations, for instance, and learn to communicate effectively, to speak and write reasonably well.

TM: “The more skills you have the better you’ll be at your job, whatever it might be.”
