Beyond her work in the dance studio and her dedication to the JOY Foundation, Ibarra-Smith has also been recognized for her volunteerism at Santa Monica’s John Muir Elementary School. Her efforts to help serve as a bridge between the school and some of the monolingual parents were recognized by Hispanic news organization La Opinion when she was named one of 30 Outstanding Women of 2012.

Dream, Hard Work and Commitment

It is this can-do attitude that Ibarra-Smith is taking to fundraising. The JOY Foundation’s second-annual “Bring JOY to a Child’s Life” dinner and auction will be held Nov. 2 at Casa del Mar Santa Monica.
A star-studded cast will participate. Actress Kiki Melendez is the official spokesperson for the foundation. KTLA TV Report/Anchor Elizabeth Espinosa will host this year’s event. Isai Morale, Jessica Jimenez, Lily Melgar and Susana Santiago are among the actors coming to the event.

“If we can work together to help one another overcome obstacles, not only are you successful as an individual, but also as a community. If you have a dream, work incredibly hard and are committed to seeing it come to fruition, it will and it has!” says Ibarra-Smith. “My dream has been to work with under served youth, particularly those challenged having special needs.”

To that end, the JOY Foundation is seeking donations of merchandise, certificates, services and/or sponsors for the dinner and auction event. The foundation hopes local businesses and individuals in the community will help make JOY’s mission a reality by raising funds to create a place where children can thrive, while building their skills as they grow to live fulfilling and successful lives, according to Ibarra-Smith.
Proceeds generated will allow the foundation to continue providing speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, social skills, training and play groups, music and movement therapy, camp opportunities, sports classes, education support, counseling, after school and enrichment programs for children and parenting classes for adults.
