4.   Remind the Team of the Larger Vision

As you are trying to build your business it is inevitable you will go through a few different transitional times.

Sometimes you might have a couple employees moving onto new opportunities at the same time – often compounding one another and potentially having adverse impacts on culture.

It is super critical to keep the team moving forward. If you feel the vibe is dragging, call an all-hands meeting and get everyone together. Talk about what’s happening, what’s on the horizon and remind employees of the larger vision you are all driving towards and fighting for each day.

5.   Plan Time Out of the Office

Moments like this it can be good to get everyone out of the office for a bit. In most companies I’ve been at, we would look to do a mini “farewell” get-together whenever a teammate or close friend would be parting ways.

A casual happy hour offers everyone an opportunity to say farewell and spend time together informally, especially those outside the immediate team. From personal experience, this small gesture can go a long way in helping people feel appreciated and send off on a positive note!

Whether you are a five-person small business startup or a one-hundred person company, losing a top notch teammate is never be easy. But as a leader in your business you must be proactive. Take steps to recognize and acknowledge the impact your employee had, and motivate the broader team to keep momentum moving forward.
