Panamanian Latina Has Received Stellar Recognition From the Children Services Council

2019 Hispanic Woman of Distinction, Silvia Beebe, Assistant Division Director, Broward County Community Partnerships Division

“We are the largest and growing minority group in the U.S. and, as such, have a responsibility to challenge the status quo. Education, parent engagement, economic parity and employment have to be highlighted as priorities for Hispanics in our community.”

Silvia Beebe has made advocating for children and our community’s most vulnerable residents her vocation and personal mission.

As the Assistant Division Director for Broward County Community Partnerships Division (BCCPD), Silvia works in collaboration with community partners to enhance and develop a comprehensive approach for children and adults who need help the most. Working with an $80 million fiscal budget, she and the rest of her division coordinate service provisions to enhance the quality of life for Broward County residents through innovative and integrated health and human services programs.

Prior to joining BCCPD, Silvia was the Circuit 17 Community Development Administrator for the Department of Children and Families (DCF). The division not only works with children in in the foster care system and adults needing protective services, but also supports families striving to become economically self-sufficient as well as those affected with substance abuse and mental health issues.

For those Broward County (BC) residents affected by the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, Silvia coordinated with numerous government agencies, communities, businesses and non-profits to provide services and food stamps to more than 170,000 residents affected by the storm. More than $150 million in food stamp benefits was distributed, helping the working poor who normally would not be eligible to receive government assistance get back to normalcy

In addition, after the tragedy at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas, Silvia and DCF staff worked in collaboration with the Managing Entity and community partners to provide much needed crisis and trauma counseling for the victims and their families.

Silvia graduated with a B.S. in Health Services Administration and a Master’s in Public Administration from Florida International University.

This Panama native has volunteered with the Hispanic Vote, Greater Fort Lauderdale, Pembroke Pines and Miramar’s Chambers of Commerce, LifeNet4Families, and is a former president of the Ft. Lauderdale H.S. Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA). She also served on the boards at the Children’s Services Council of Broward, CareerSource Broward, BC Children’s Services Board and Early Learning Coalition.

Her community service has earned her recognition from the Children Services Council with the “Exceptional Service Award,” the “Children Strategic Plan Chairs’ Award” for heading the Countywide Cultural Competence Committee, “Volunteer Appreciation Award” from Ft. Lauderdale H.S. and a “Special Recognition Award” for organizing the Teen Transition to Life Summit for Youth with Special Needs.

Silvia is happily married to Douglas Beebe, a pilot. They are the proud parents of Timothy, Angelica, Douglas, Jr. and DeAngelo. She enjoys reading, tennis, dancing salsa and traveling.
