Traveling has been one of the most fulfilling things I have done in my life
Being able to witness different locations, cultures, flora, and fauna always leaves me refreshed and rejuvenated. When I founded my business in 2008, traveling was so important that I made it a part of my business to be able to offer retreats for others to experience other countries as well.
There are so many reasons why one may choose to travel, here are 7 great ones that I believe are the most important:
Let’s begin with the obvious… Traveling offers us unique and unforgettable experiences that can last us a lifetime! Life is all about broadening our understanding and our Self, and traveling offers us an ability to have new and unique experiences that help us fulfill that sense of wonder and curiosity that humans have about life. Discovering new places, exploring new activities, and challenging ourselves can help us to be more open to new experiences as we get back to our everyday routines.
Also, while traveling, we are often faced with situations or challenges like having to communicate with someone who doesn’t speak the same language, solve problems in an unfamiliar territory, and remain flexible to whatever comes up. Handling situations outside of our comfort zone, can help us become more self-reflective, resourceful, and adaptable in our lives. As we explore new cultures, history, art, food, languages, or local traditions, our life becomes richer as we feel rewarded by just enjoying the present moment.
Being exposed to different locations, cultures, foods, religions, and traditions can allow us to become more empathic and compassionate. Being privy to how others operate in the world can serve to offer us new perspectives and ideas about our own life.
When we travel alone, we can gain a sense of independence without feeling lonely that is very significant when it comes to how we come back into our “normal” life. When we can understand that we can have the same amount of independence, confidence, and courage, no matter where we are, we can start living a more intentional and daring life.
It is crucial in this fast-moving world with non-stop distractions to take a metaphorical break from our routine and come back to ourselves. Vacations allow us a change of pace in which we can rest and relax and become rejuvenated. As we fill our metaphorical cup, we can come back being better partners, parents, managers, employees, friends, and human beings.
I don’t know about you, but my family made me very adventurous with food. By the time I was 5 I was eating spinach soup, escargot, pate, and raw tuna (before sushi was a thing in the US). Traveling gives me the ability to experience new spices, different ways to prepare dishes and different foods that may not be available where I am, on the small island of Puerto Rico. Trying new dishes allows me to come home with new ideas on for getting creative with my own meals allowing me to be more daring in the kitchen.
I can’t tell you how many people I have met on vacation that I am still connected to today! Vacations allow us the opportunity to be surrounded by a new community, have different conversations, make new friends, and connect with others who may have similar interests to us.
Vacations really can altogether change your life. I am Puerto Rican and was living in California when I went on vacation to Peru and met an Irishman who is now my husband! This month at Latin Business Today, we want to highlight the importance of vacationing and everything that goes with it and if you’re looking for a fun adventure, join me on one of my B.A.Y. Lifestyle retreats.
