We are in Spain; country of wine and good food and Alcala de Henares is no different from any other region in Spain.
Here you can find great dining options, as well as wine bars. We happen to run into two of the best places to go in town and I would like to strongly suggest you pay them a visit.
My first option is Vinoteca Essencias del Gourmet, located in the city center, this little gem serves great wines and delicious food. What is best about the place is that they offer wine tasting events, just about every night of the week or you can have one customized for you and your guests.
When we visited, we tried four wines with four different tapas.
The portions we great, staff knowledgeable and services impeccable. Down the street from this location we also found a great place for purchasing various local gourmet items such as wine, cheese, chocolates, fruit preserves, local honey, pates, etc.
Did I mention we met the owner? yes, his name is Javier, or you can go Spaniard and call him “Javi” he is one of the persons I have met to know more about Spanish gourmet foods. Cannot wait to go back!
As you have seen Alcala de Henares has much to offer, so I encourage you next time you visit Spain to go out and venture to its smaller cities which are rich in culture, history and good wine & tapas. Ole!
