Arabella shares more about herself and her vision

6. Who is your hero and why?

It’s probably cliché to say my mother, but it is true. She always wanted more for her children than she had. She desperately wanted to go to school but she had to drop out because her father wouldn’t allow it. She was a poet. She loved to read and taught me that through books, I could travel the world. When I was Assistant Secretary, I took my mother to Greece, Egypt, and Israel. She was the proudest of me during that time. For her, it was a dream fulfilled.

7. What is your vision for the Latino Community Foundation in the next decade?

The Latino Community Foundation must build an endowment so that we can truly shape our own agenda. Right now we have great funders, but limited flexibility. I want our Foundation to be an institution that people trust and feel like it is theirs. I also want us to develop the next generation of philanthropic leaders.

8. What is one word that best describes you?

Hard-working.

9. What do you do for fun?

After a long work day, I like a glass of Scotch. My husband and I used to love going to the Zoo. We always enjoyed travelling. Most of all, I still love spending time with my friends, family, and colleagues – having dinner and laughing.

10. When are you happiest?

On Sunday afternoon, when my husband David and I are reading the Sunday newspaper, discussing the world and Ella Fitzgerald is singing in the background.
