Early Inspirations Lead to Career Path

by Jesus Grana

With such early focus and determination, I went on to Cornell University and then straight to grad school at the University of Michigan – mostly through great scholarships intended not only for academic excellence but for strong focus and execution toward career goals (the Cornell Tradition Scholarship was and is a great program as well as the Consortium for Graduate Studies in Management – not sure I would have been able to achieve such great education levels without these scholarship honors). While in mid career I decided not to pursue a CEO position in a large corporation (most of my generation bailed out on this one), I was able to manage some of the best brands in the world (Always, Lysol, Resolve, Woolite to name a few) as well as have an imprint in many technology products and concept strategies with a 10-year horizon. Many of the concepts we worked on in IBM back in 2002 are just coming to fruition now, things like RFID tags and Telematics as well as location-based services and SaaS. I definitely feel blessed and privileged to have had such great formative years and inspiring role model organization and individual. I only hope that my writings and value generation I now do for my clients will touch other kids out there. Believe me, you can do what you like and be happy. That’s all that counts.
