Latina CEO of Dominican Descent Gives Back To South Florida Community
Meet Marianela Collado, a 2019 Hispanic Woman of Distinction, CPA/PFS, CFP®, CEO, Tobias Financial Advisors, Inc.
“There are far too few women and Hispanics in the financial planning world. This is an opportunity for women to step up and help their fellow community members in ways that affect them for generations to come.”
Marianela Collado always understood that securing a comfortable financial future meant more than just haphazardly saving money and making random investments. Towards that end Marianela invested in her career by receiving the specialized education necessary to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Personal Financial Services Specialist (PFS) and received a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) certification. These hard-earned credentials make her a true asset to her clients by ensuring that they are working with a professional with all the expertise necessary to help them achieve their financial goals.
While honing her skills at Arthur Andersen and Bessemer Trust, Marianela learned the importance of teamwork and continues to collaborate to ensure her clients get the best overall advice. In 2017, when she became the majority shareholder and CEO at Tobias Financial Advisors, Inc., she now uses her experience to guide her new team into the firm’s future and financial growth. Since joining Tobias, the firm has increased assets by more than $100 million and has had a near perfect customer satisfaction rating.
Marianela is of Dominican descent, and while growing up in her native New York, earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from City College of New York at Hunter College with a Magna cum laude honor. She was also a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and American Scholars National Honor Society.
In the community, Marianela is a founding member and current Director for the West Broward chapter of the National Association of Divorce Professionals, a board member at Gilda’s Club South Florida, a member of the Family Law Professionals of South Florida and founded a women’s networking, bonding and mentoring group called Women, Wealth, Wisdom and Wine. She is a member of the American Institute of CPA’s (AICPA) and serves on the Florida Institute of CPA’s (FICPA) Women in Leadership Committee. She also serves as a member of the FICPA’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee which works to encourage more women to join the financial industry and organizes an annual Women’s Leadership Summit.
Her professional and community service has earned her participation in Women Leading Broward as part of Leadership Broward. Among the many honors she has acquired, Marianela also received the Women’s Choice Award by the Women Certified Inc., the Voice of Women and was honored with the AICPA’s Standing Ovation Award for her contributions to personal financial planning.
Marianela is a frequent expert resource for media organizations such as El Nuevo Herald, the New York Times, CNBC and NerdWallet among others.
After serving as Chief Financial Officer for Ingersoll Rand’s air conditioning business in Latin America, Marianela’s husband, Edgar, now works with her at Tobias Financial.
The couple and their three sons, Christian, Jonathan and Julian, enjoy beachside resort vacations, and while she doesn’t get to do it often enough, Marianela enjoys recreating masters’ oil paintings such as Van Gogh’s “The Starry Night.”
